About the species
Snow geese, blue geese (color phase of the snow), and Ross's geese are the three light-goose species hunted across North America. Mid-continent populations exploded over the past forty years to the point of overgrazing the Arctic breeding grounds, leading to very generous bag limits and the spring conservation order in many states.
Spring conservation order seasons (electronic calls, unplugged shotguns, no daily bag limit) drive most light-goose harvest. Fall regular seasons run alongside Canadas with bag limits typically around 20 birds daily mid-continent. Massive decoy spreads (hundreds to thousands of birds) and aggressive calling are the dominant technique.
