Q.Turkey Hunting & Breeding

How does rain affect turkey hunting?

A.

Light rain doesn't bother turkeys much; gobbling continues and birds feed normally. Heavy rain shuts down gobbling and pushes birds into open areas where they can see predators. The hour after a rain ends often produces a burst of gobbling as birds resume normal activity.

Strategy in light rain: hunt as normal, with quieter calling and emphasis on visual decoy setups. Strategy in heavy rain: shift to open field setups (pastures, food plots, openings) where turkeys can see predators and feel safe.

Post-rain hunts are reliable because gobbling resumes on a settled atmosphere. Turkey state calendars cover phase timing.
