Pre-breed: aggressive yelping and cutting work — toms compete for unpaired hens and respond to challenge calls. Peak breed: subtle yelps, clucks, and silence — toms are with hens and aggressive calling backfires. Post-breed: moderate yelping and soft purrs — toms are regrouping and respond to feeding-hen sequences.
Match call intensity to phase. Calling that works on opening weekend may push birds two weeks later. Reading the phase by gobbling intensity, hen visibility, and tom availability tells you when to dial calls up or down.
