Q.Stand Placement & Tactics

How do I set up a stand near a scrape line?

A.

Set up downwind and 30-50 yards off the scrape itself, never directly over it. Bucks scent-check scrapes from downwind before approaching, so the kill spot is where the cruising approach crosses your shooting lane. Hunt the wind, not the scrape.

Scrape lines along ridges and bedding-area edges produce reliable pre-rut and seeking-phase encounters. The scrape isn't a destination — it's an indicator that a high-traffic travel route exists. Position the stand to intercept the route, not to overlook the scrape.

Pair scrape-line stands with state pre-rut and seeking-phase dates from the rut date pages.
