What is antlerless only season and when does it occur?
An antlerless-only season is a window when only antlerless deer (does and button bucks) can be harvested. States use them to focus harvest pressure on female deer for population management. Timing varies — some states put antlerless seasons in early September (pre-rut), some in late October or December (post-rut), and some across the entire general season.
Antlerless-only seasons are typically generous on tags because the goal is reducing doe numbers. They also reduce buck pressure when overlapping general season is closed.
See state regulations pages for current antlerless season dates by zone.
